Women's Tennis Stumbles in 8-1 Loss at Rensselaer

TROY, N.Y. – The Plattsburgh State tennis team suffered an 8-1 loss at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute Sunday afternoon, dropping the Cardinals to 5-2 on the year.

Sophomore Stephanie Omlin and junior Sam Fasciano picked up Plattsburgh’s only point Sunday with a 9-7 win at No. 3 doubles over Jessica Buckley and Katrina Bohnhorst. With the win, the Cardinal pair improves to 4-2 this season in doubles action.

Despite two closes games at No. 1 and No. 2 doubles, Plattsburgh dropped both by a score of 8-5.

The Engineers dominated in singles play, taking all six matchups from the Cardinals. Senior Rachel Hodnett gave the best performance at first singles, but was unable to overcome Casey Olsen. Hodnett suffered the loss by a score of 7-5, 6-3 and falls to 3-3 at No. 1 singles through the first half of the season.

Plattsburgh returns home Tuesday and will look to turn things around against Johnson State. The non-conference match is scheduled for 3:30 p.m. at the Memorial Hall Tennis Courts.
