Three Cardinals Garner NFCA All-Region Honors

STARKVILLE, MISS. – The National Fastpitch Coach Association (NFCA) has announced its 2012 Division III All-Region teams with three members of the Plattsburgh State softball team being honored.

Ashley Marshall was named to the first team, Erin Florkiewicz garnered second-team honors, while Brittany Marshall earned a nod to the third-team.

A junior pitcher out of Malone, N.Y., Ashley Marshall earns her third consecutive NFCA All-Region citation. After being honored as the SUNYAC Pitcher of the Year, Marshall went on to dominate the NCAA Regional tournament at Amherst College as the Cardinals rolled to a 4-0 finish and earned a place at the Division III College World Series. Marshall was named MVP of the Regional as well as the SUNYAC tournament a week earlier. Marshall continues to set the record for single-season wins, a mark she bested after beating Amherst College for her 24th win of the season. She currently has a 1.41 ERA and has struck out 269 batters.

Florkiewicz repeats on the All-Region team as she enjoys her best year in a Cardinal uniform. The senior catcher was named to the All-SUNYAC first team last week. She is currently second on the team with a .390 batting average, six home runs and leads the team with a .667 slugging percentage. The Warwick, N.Y. native posted career-highs in runs (23), hits (41) and RBI (23) going into the World Series. Florkiewicz also leads the team with 295 putouts.

After becoming the first player in program history to be named as the SUNYAC Rookie of the Year, Brittany Marshall garnered third-team honors in her first season with the Cardinals. The shortstop from Malone, N.Y. is batting .346, leads the team in runs with 48 and is second on the team in hits with 47. Marshall has recorded 33 stolen bases on 37 attempts as her speed has been a difference maker in many of the Cardinals games this season.

The Cardinals are headed to Salem, Virginia for the Division III World Series. They will kick things off on Friday when they face Montclair State.
