ROCHESTER, N.Y. – Two weeks after toughing it out on a muddy SUNYAC course, the Plattsburgh State men’s cross country team didn’t have to contend with any adverse weather conditions, but faced many top-flight teams en route to a 16
th place finish at the NCAA Atlantic Regional hosted by the University of Rochester on Saturday (Nov. 10).
The Cardinals collected 495 total points while three of the five point-producing athletes finished in the top 100 at the 44-team event. New York University took the title, amassing just 50 points while boasting a trio of top-five finishers. It proved to be the final run of 2012 for the Cardinals, as their team placing was not high enough to put them in the field for the NCAA Division III Cross Country Championship.
Two SUNYAC institutions – Geneseo and Cortland – finished in the top five. Geneseo picked up a runner-up finish at the event, while Cortland took home third place honors. Oneonta, Buffalo State and Fredonia finished eleventh, twelfth and thirteenth respectively. Brockport, New Paltz, Oswego and Potsdam each finished behind the Cardinals.
For the second consecutive season, Ryan Millar paced Plattsburgh State at the event. The senior out of New Hartford, N.Y., finished in 32
nd place, traversing the 8,000 meter course in a time of 26:16.5. With his top-35 finish, Millar earned All-Region honors for the second consecutive season. Millar was followed by fellow seniors Chris Martin (26:39.2) and Mike Schram (26:39.5) who crossed the line 55
th and 56
th respectively.
Senior Rich Adickes posted a time of 28:15.3 to finish 168
th. Running in his first NCAA Regional, freshman Jason Flach was the last point-producing member for the Cardinals, finishing 184th with a time of 28:34.2.
Despite his all-region accolades, Millar will also miss the cut for an individual appearance at the national championship race.
The Cardinals put the wraps on a season that saw them finish in sixth place at the SUNYAC Championships before today’s upper-half finish at the regional race.
