FREDONIA, N.Y. — Kyle Norchi of the Plattsburgh State lacrosse team has been named State University of New York Athletic Conference Player of the Week for the week ending March 20. Goalkeeper Danny Caufield was also named SUNYAC Goalie of the Week.

A senior attack from Hauppauge, N.Y., Norchi led the Cardinals’ offense in each of their three games last week. In a 19-9 win over Birmingham-Southern College, Norchi totaled seven points on four goals and three assists. Two days later against Guilford College, Norchi netted four goals and added a helper in a 19-8 win. In the week’s finale, Norchi exploded for six goals and an assist in the Cardinals’ 16-6 win against Montclair State.

A junior from Rochester, N.Y., Caufield was a rock in net for the Cardinals in a 3-0 week, making a combined 32 saves, including a season-high 17 against Birmingham-Southern Monday. Through five games this season, he has amassed 56 saves in his first season as the Cardinals’ full-time starter.

The Cardinals are 4-1 to open the 2011 season and play their home-opener Wednesday, March 23, against St. Michael’s College at 7 p.m. at the Field House Lacrosse Complex.
