CORTLAND, N.Y. — Teal Gove notched a goal and two assists and Plattsburgh State threw 50 shots on the Cortland net in a 3-0 win in Eastern College Athletic Conference West division action.
With the three points, Gove moved her season total to 24, including a team-best 14 goals.
The scoring opened up 11:43 into the first when Gove took a feed from Kara Buehler and beat Cortland goaltender Katie Double. That goal turned out to be the game-winner, the second of the year for Gove.
Three minutes later, Kate Fairfield got in on the scoring on a scramble in front, batting home a loose puck. Gove assisted on the goal — Fairfield’s third of the season.
Amber Welch closed out the night’s scoring with her third goal of the year when she put a puck past Double off another setup by Gove.
Double turned in a 94 percent save percentage, turning away 47 of Plattsburgh’s 50 shots. Cardinal goaltender Mandy Mackrell stopped 18 Cortland shots in her fifth shutout of the season.
The Cardinals move to 16-3-3, 12-1-2 in the ECAC West. Cortland falls to 4-16-2, 3-10-2 in conference action. Plattsburgh remains in tied for second place with Elmira in the conference, four points behind first-place R.I.T, who lost to Oswego State, 2-1, Saturday. The Cardinals have three games remaining, while R.I.T has one and Elmira has two. Elmira faces Buffalo State Sunday and squares off against R.I.T for one game next weekend
Plattsburgh and Cortland will close out their two-game set with a 3 p.m. game Sunday in Cortland.
