Cardinals Complete Sweep in Buffalo with 2-1 Victory

BUFFALO, N.Y.
– The Cardinals scored two unanswered power play goals, giving the Plattsburgh State women’s hockey team enough offense to defeat Buffalo State, 2-1, in an ECAC West division game this afternoon.  Plattsburgh improves to 12-2-1 overall and 8-1 in ECAC West play.

The Bengals grabbed a 1-0 lead on Leah Knott’s first goal of the season at the 10:59 mark of the first period.

Late in the period, Erika Shaubel tied the game on a power play goal from Steph Moon and Megan DiJulio.

DiJulio added the game-winner at 8:51 of the third period.  Moon and Teal Gove were credited with assists on the Cardinals’ second power play goal of the afternoon.

The Cardinals held a 30-21 edge in shots.  Mandy Mackrell improved to 8-2-1 and made 20 saves for Plattsburgh.  Alyssa Koniar stopped 28 shots for Buffalo State.

Plattsburgh returns to the ice next weekend as the Cardinals travel to ECAC West leader, R.I.T., for two conference games.
