Cardinals Finish 75th in Learfield Sports Directors' Cup

Cardinals have appeared in the prestigious standings 12 times in the Cup's 15-year history.
Program produces third top-quarter finish in four years

CLEVELAND, Ohio--The Plattsburgh State Athletics Department registered 229-1/2 points to finish in a tie for 75th place with the University of Rochester in the final standings for the 2009-10 Learfield Sports Directors' Cup awarded by the National Association of Collegiate Directors of Athletics (NACDA). There are 432 active NCAA Division III institutions that are eligible for this prestigious program that rates the best broad-based athletics departments in the nation based on finish in the NCAA championships.

The Cardinals were among 311 scoring schools in this academic year's competition, earning their third top-quarter finish in the last four years. After a three-year absence from Cup consideration, Plattsburgh was 37th in 2006, 42nd in 2007, 43rd in 2008 and 165th last year.

Plattsburgh was in a three-way tie for 65th place after the fall standings and 43rd through the winter. The athletics program scored points in Men's Soccer, Women's Soccer, Men's Hockey, Women's Hockey, Men's Basketball, Men's Indoor Track and Field and Men's Outdoor Track and Field, setting a school record by sending seven sports to NCAA Championships in a single season.
 
Plattsburgh was fourth among State University of New York Athletic Conference institutions behind Cortland (17th, 586-1/2 points), Geneseo (45th, 330-3/4), Oneonta (64th, 253). The Cardinals were ahead of such regional schools as Bowdoin (80th, 224), Norwich (83rd, 215), Rensselaer (124th, 156), Hamilton (140th, 137-1/2), Saint John Fisher (163rd, 114) and Hobart/William Smith (177th, 100).    

Williams College is atop the Learfield Cup leaderboard for the 12th consecutive year with 1292-1/4 points to beat runner-up Amherst College (905-3/4).
