INDIANAPOLIS --The NCAA, in conjunction with the State University of New York Athletic Conference office, has awarded the Plattsburgh State women's soccer team a 1-0 victory against Geneseo in a game that originally ended in a 0-0 draw on Sept. 25.
According to Cliff McCrath, the Secretary-Rules Editor on the NCAA Men's and Women's Soccer Rules Committee, game officials should not have disallowed a goal scored by Lindsey Keyser off a corner kick by Emily Riley in the 72nd minute. McCrath noted that the officials engaged in a misapplication of the rule in nullifying what should have been a legal goal after both teams lined up for the ensuing kick-off.
The SUNYAC has also approved the ruling and reflected the results in the official conference standings.
The NCAA Statistics Service also emphasizes that the match statistics stand during regulation, but that results in the two 10-minute overtime periods are expunged.
