Plattsburgh State Women Roll Past Wildcats

PLATTSBURGH, N.Y. – Teal Gove scored three goals and assisted on another as the Plattsburgh State women’s hockey team defeated the Southwest Wildcats, 7-0, in an exhibition matchup Sunday morning at the Stafford Ice Arena.  

Three Plattsburgh freshmen scored three goals in the first 4 minutes to set the tone for the game.  Chelsea VanGlahn opened the scoring at 1:57 followed by goals by Allison Era and Amber Welch.  Gove recorded her first of the day at 11:02 to give the Cardinals a 4-0 lead at the end of the first period.

Welch scored her second of the game, an unassisted goal at 9:55 of the second period, stretching the Cardinals’ lead to 5-0 after two.

Gove scored two more goals in the third period to complete the hat-trick.  

Mandy Mackrell and newcomer Sydney Aveson split time in the Plattsburgh net, recording nine saves apiece.  Southwest goalie Shelby Allard made 32 stops for the Wildcats.

The Cardinals outshot Southwest, 39-18, and went 1-5 on the power play.

Per NCAA rules, results and statistics from today’s game do not count against Plattsburgh’s record.  The Cardinals will officially open their season next Saturday, November 6 when they host Salve Regina at 3 p.m.
